View Full Version : New member needing urgent help
Afternoon all,
Ive just bought my 3rd fto. A silver gr. But after driving it for a day or so it has started flashing. Neutral on the dash and it won't change into 1st or fourth. Instead it keeps puttin itself into 3rd which I'm told is safe mode. Any ideas what could be causing this? Someone mentioned a road speed sensor???? Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Steve

Join up and become a full member. There are many useful hints and tips about the "Flashing N" in the grease monkey section. I myself had that problem for awhile, but the club sorted it :).

there is a thread in the grease monkey section about this. I had the same fault, 2 weeks after the gearbox completely failed. Read the thread, but try to change the gearbox fluid too.

When was the gearbox fluid changed? Best thing to do is change that properly (and the tip box filter). If that works, then jolly good, if not then it'll probably be one of the gearbox speed sensors - either the input or output one. But before buying them willy-nilly, use the diagnostic guide in the grease monkey section to read out the error codes. :)
thanks for the advice all but still no joy.
the problem ive got is that when i put the car in drive the d doesnt light as it should, instead it goes in to first and i have to put it in tip to get it to change into second, there is a dely when i try to change into 3rd and when it finally does (bout 28 mph) the n starts flashing. It then wont change into any gear in auto and in tip it will only let me change between 2nd and third.
Any ideas?? bit worried that it could be the box that needs replacing.
Ive tried millan, was told to disconnect the battery for a minimum of 45 mins. Left it off over night but come the morning and all was the same. been told to change the input and output spped sensors but im worried that the gearbox could be gone.
Unfortunately I dont now know about the gear box its some think I want to learn more about. Have you tried an oil change for the gearbox or just checked the oil level in it?

ecu reset is undo battery for at least 30 mins, turn lights on so it drains everything out your ecu, then connect battery, restart engine turn off any lights air con or radio leave for 10 mins idling then if u want take for a drive to rest gears in tip if not leave hope it helps m8
Cheers millan,
Oil in the box was changed the weekend. just been out and checked the level again and its fine. Not looking forward to the outcome. its not lookin good. lol
Cheers steveoz1,
just been out and disconnected the battery again. will go back out when the other half is watchin the soaps, fingers crossed.
LOL
Do you have the workshop guides? I think you can download them from here some where. On page 294 I think thats your problem. Which cause is either output shaft speed sensor, transfer drive gear or driven gear, connector, or A/T-ECU.
If goes through the troubleshooting to work it out as well.
I'll have a look mate. Thanks for that. Appreciate it.

Have you used the Grease Monkey guide to get the Error Codes from the ECU for the tip gearbox ? If so, what error code did it give you ?
