Hi all. Just bought a facelift model, manual, V6.
This is my second FTO and I love it, but...........
The outer headlamp on the o/s comes on when you turn the lights on but goes off after about 5mins. The n/s one stays on.
I bought some bulbs off evilbay and eventually managed to change the inner ones.
My question is: How do you get to the outer bulb as it seems to be sealed and there is no way you can get your hands in to fettle around. Are they sealed.?

I had a similar problem, it was a loose connection on one of the bulb housings. try moving it around a little to see it it comes back on. I am not sure if they are sealed, although i doubt they would be .

i reacon you mean they are factory fitted hids. if they are there is a good possibility that the ballast is on its way out. and if they are, I do believe the only way to remove the lamp is to remove the whole light assembly off of car. somebody will no doubtedly be along soon to confirm or tell you how to do it. If you have FF hids the back of where the bulb would be will be covered over by a cubed section of plastic

You are right, looks like HIDS. Can these be fixed?
Do I have to take the wing off to get the h/lamp out?

Factory fitted HIDs are pretty rare. Only the GPvRs had them and they might of also been available as an optional extra on some facelift FTOs.

The issue with them is that the ballasts seem to die. Replacement original ballast are stupid money. Though it's well worth getting quote from a Mitsubishi dealer and also from camskill.

Might also be worth placing an advert in our "wanted" section as someone else might have a working one spare they are will to sell you. However won't be able to do this until you become a full member. Trust me the £18 is well worth the money as it gives you discounts for places like camskill and your insurance etc.

Failing that you could replace the ballast (or both of them) with a standard aftermarket one(s). These are a lot cheaper but don't have the correct connections. There was someone who did this conversion recently and did a very neat job of fitting new connectors etc. You'll have to do a search but again I'm pretty sure again you'll need to be a full member to see how he did this.

You don't need to take the headlight off at all or any bumpers/wings. Just take the old ballasts off. Jack the car up and you can get to them from underneath , they are in a metal casing. You can connect aftermarket ballasts instead but if I were you i'd start all over again new a new kit.

I had the same trouble and you'll find if you just replace the old ballasts with new they will keep blowing because you wont have an inline fuse with the original wiring. You'll spend loads just replacing ballasts all the time.

Get a new aftermarket kit and replace the lot thats what i did and wish I had in the first place

Why is nothing in this world easy.

If I buy an aftermarket HID kit do I have to remove the h/lights to fit it?

No you don't have to take the headlights out, all I did was cut a hole in the back of the cover that go on after the bulb is in. If you join you'll see pictures on here

EVERYTHING seems too be optional extras on the FTO when they were made! no two exactly alike (well maybe one or three, but you get the idea).
