    A3 Hindhead Tunnel Run - 8th July

anyone fancy a trip down the A3? i just realised that there is a nice shiny new tunnel there just about 12 miles from my front door.....and not seen a mention of it on here....(its a big one too)...

im going off there on saturday to see what the traffic and length of it is, so i will report back. anyone who fancies it just add something on here...no dates or times as i can do it every night in about 10 mins from my place, so just make a suggestion.

I mentioned it back in November!

It's 1.4 miles long and if you go to the Devils Punchbowl, you can grab yourself a quick afternoon drink too. It's national speed limit - so 70mph through the average speed check. However, if you enter the average check at 40mph and plant your foot at the tunnel entrance, you can "theoretically" hit 80 twice as long as you slow down in between times.

I used the tunnel twice per day for 3 months for a contract role. I could've gone a quicker way to the job, but it wasn't as much fun! Only drawback is when there is heavy rain or fog as the speed tends to be reduced to 40mph. Still fun though!

RPG would be better, not for the tunnel but the camera's. The camera's are quarter of a mile before the tunnel on the London side and about 40 yards on the other side.

Do the trick of entering the speed restriction at 40. Drop the windows, put the car into tip (if auto) and enjoy the echos. It never gets boring even after twice per day for 3 months!!

Theres a few of us from portsmouth that have used that tunnel before, all at the same time.

The mivec roar in an enclosed space is astonishing, especially in chorus!

I completely agree with you there! I had the priviledge to do it with a red Corvette Z06 if memory serves me right - the guy looked at me, I looked at him, we had both entered the tunnel at 40mph. He planted it a split second before me and was in my rear view a couple of seconds later. We performed this trick twice!! I couldn't hear the Z06 over the Mivec roar. It was after the tunnel that his top speed overtook my nerve!

I think this is a very good idea!

I can do pretty much any time except for the week before and after June 25th (new arrival on way!)

For me to do that, it would be an extra 40 miles / 1 hour there and back as it's in completely the opposite direction!

I think some time in July/August would be preferable. June is looking quite busy at the moment....

so july is the first date.......any advances on "july" someone fancy picking a day? and we can start a list...

like i said i don't care when it is i would go now if someone fancied it.....ok maybe not right now im just off in the bath...or is that too much information?

been thinking about the speed limit too....im sure i could manage to stay within both the speed limit and in mivec mode for a mile n some......1st would be a bit off but second is a possible...after all its the noise we need in the tunnel, not necessarily the speed......and yes i do know what happens when you get a few fto drivers together for a "run" i was at the back of thirteen going to gatwick........nice n steady was the word b4 we set off, i turned onto the m25 and there were fto's all over the place...even one passing on the hard shoulder......

if we take some dr pepper......whats the worst that could happen....lol
